Designed to detect the presence of a flame or fire.
Typically using infrared (IR) or ultraviolet (UV) sensing technology.
Infrared (IR) Flame Sensor
- Sensing element typically consists of a material sensitive to infrared radiation
- Material could be a photodiode, phototransistor, or some other type of photoelectric cell
- When a flame is present, it emits infrared radiation as part of the combustion process
- IR-sensitive element in the sensor detects these specific wavelengths of infrared light
- To ensure accurate flame detection, the sensor includes filters that help eliminate interference from ambient light sources
